PhD program in Molecular and Regenerative medicine
Welcome to the web site of the PhD program in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine, offered by University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy). This site is devoted to fulfill two main purposes:
- To provide information to people interested in knowing more about the course and its research projects, offering all the necessary contact and enrollment information (for the latter, we refer to the university official page).
- To be a communication and information gathering center for teachers and students involved, promoting information exchange and sharing of up to date news.
Program description
The PhD school in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine, PhD program in Molecular and Regenerative Medicine includes two main thematic areas:
- The first involves the study of the molecular mechanisms underlying self-renewal and differentiation of the different adult stem cells by means of post-genomic technologies, functional genomics, animal models, in vitro assays and bioinformatics. It also relates such findings to regenerative medicine, with particular regard to cellular and gene therapy with stem cells in hereditary diseases.
- The second concerns molecular medicine, defined as the study of molecular and cellular physiopathology and molecular diagnostics. It aimes to identify mutations in candidate genes and their pathogenetic characterization in vitro by means of mutagenesis, minigenes and study of biological, chemical and physical properties of mutant proteins. It also investigates the role of modifier genes in the phenotypic expression of hereditary diseases, and of new candidate genes in some metabolic genetic disorders.
